Parma is a lovely city in northeast Ohio. It is the largest suburb of Cleveland and an ideal spot for people that need to commute downtown but do not want to live in the big city. Downtown Cleveland is only 10 miles away or about 15-20 minutes, depending on the route and traffic. Parma also has easy access to Hopkins International Airport, which is only 11 minutes away.
The city has a low-profile skyline without any high-rises. The sidewalks near its core are wide and outlined with inlaid brick pavers giving them a classic look. In the middle of the city lies the Shoppes of Parma, an outdoor shopping plaza with nationally recognized brands. Parma also has many locally owned and operated businesses scattered throughout the city.
The homes in Parma range from two-story single-family houses to vintage brick bungalows and everything in between. Some older homes have little acreage, but other neighborhoods have more generous lot sizes.
Parma has green spaces with parks sprinkled throughout the area, and a beautiful 18-hole course, the Ridgewood Golf Course, located near the city center. It has over 20 other recreational facilities. Parma has a friendly atmosphere. It is a tight-knit community that likes socializing with one another and welcoming visitors to the area. One bite of a tasty pierogi or a sweet paczki will have most people hooked.
Parma also has many shopping and dining options. Chuppa’s Market is a family-owned grocery store featuring fresh produce and tasty pre-made meals. Twisted Taino is down the street from the market and adds a Caribbean flavor to the local restaurant scene. Just a few blocks down the road, Das Schnitzel Haus has delicious German cuisine, and its sister location across the street, Schnitz Ale Brewery, has a great selection of microbrews to try.
For Japanese fare, people rave about Mizu Sushi. Some say it has the best sushi in the Cleveland area. If you are in the mood for Italian instead, there is Fratello’s Pizza. It gets high marks for taste and service.
Things to Do
The residents of Parma have a great sense of community, and they like to get together and have fun. The city hosts multiple festivals and community events throughout the year. The Ukrainian Village Festival, the Hungarian Scout Festival, and the Polish Constitution Day Parade are just a few annual celebrations held in Parma. The Ukrainian Festival starts with a parade followed by the festival, including live music, entertainment, food, and games.
Little Birdie Wine Nest is great for a girls’ night out or a date night. It offers wine tastings, food, and events. Greenbriar Commons is near the library and fun for everyone. It has tennis, volleyball, and bocce courts. There is also a swimming pool, a splash park, a Warrior Fitness Course, and walking trails. Nature lovers really like Big Creek Reservation. It is a great place to fish, walk, hike or bike on trails. Families have picnics in the summer and go sledding in the winter.

The Stearns Homestead is a historic 48-acre farm that families can visit for fun and educational opportunities. Outdoor enthusiasts like the 326-acre Metroparks West Creek Reservation. Visitors can hike or bike along the trails and explore the forests, gorges, and creeks.
